On January 7, 2006 a very “special dog” was born. This special dog was a Shetland sheep dog. He was blessed with so many gifts from God. He gave his family unconditional love, loyalty and a commitment. Durago loved to play in his yard, watching and chasing the bunnies there.
One day his Mother brought home another dog named Miles. Instead of being jealous, Durago saw right from the start Miles was a special needs dog since he only had 3 legs. Durago was always careful around Miles when they played, was protective of him and alerted the family when Miles was having seizures. Durago would stand near Miles during his seizures and comforted him afterwards. Somehow Durago knew Miles needed extra care and willing shared his bed, toys and even food to show how much he loved his little companion.
About a year and a half ago, Durago was diagnosed with Lupus. It was very hard on him but he fought his hardest to get into remission. He did very well on his medicine, taking it willingly, almost like he knew it was helping him feel better. Several months ago, Durago hit a bump in the road, being diagnosed with a respiratory infection. While he recovered well from this infection, he was then diagnosed with having lymphatic cancer. He had fought hard to bring this cancer to remission but the obstacles were too great and he was tired from fighting. In the end, his family and veterinarian made the decision to let him go with peace and dignity.
While we miss our Durago, we will celebrate his life with a Memorial fund in his name. Durago received the best care at the Cazenovia Animal Hospital and we would like to thank Dr. Jerry Kolb and his staff for doing everything possible for him. Our hope is the memorial fund will allow clients needing assistance in providing needed medical care for a pet to offset some of the expenses.
With all your help, let’s keep Durago’s memory alive and help ease the burden that some people have when it comes to taking care of their beloved pets. What a wonderful way to celebrate your pet’s life by making a donation to carry on Durago’s legacy of caring support and love.
